The gear I use has been cultivated through
years of research to facilitate our needs in wildlife photography. I am not sponsored by any companies and, while I am loyal to certain brands that have served me well, I know there are
other makes and models of gear that will do the job. I am of the
mind-set to try as much as I can to buy once and to have it last as long
as possible. As with all things in the
electronic world it is difficult to keep to that policy when we constantly have
bigger and better screaming at us. Being patient and skipping generations of new models is one way of

My list is constantly evolving. In fact, since the time of taking this photo, some of our tools have changed. For example, I now use the MagMod MagBeam in place of the Better Beamer. The ease of use of the MagMod and its performance made this an easy choice. I have also added the small Wacom Tablet. I have become very use to a pen tablet in our editing world and to be with out it is tough. And of course, when Sheryl is shooting with me, our list becomes a new monster (a Sherpa would come in handy!).
Everyone has a different perspective on what works best for them and there are many factors to consider. For me, it's a combination of the quality of image, the direction we are headed, and the ability to travel as light as possible.
